The distinct and traditional sound of birch has made it the choice of many professional drummers for years, but Tama believes it's time to take birch in an entirely different direction. By using bubinga wood for the inner-layers of a birch shell on Starclassic Performer drums, Tama has created a new sound with a sweeter and deeper tone—the focused attack of birch paired with the enhanced lows of bubinga. The kick drum has an 8mm shell with 5 plies of birch and 3 inner-plies of bubinga. The rack and floor toms have 6mm shells with 4 plies of birch and 3 inner-plies of bubinga.

Star-Cast Mounting System
The Tama drum shell pack's Star-Cast Mounting System provides maximum resonance and stability. A streamlined design makes it easier to position toms closer together for greater ease and comfort. Aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration.

Die-cast hoops
Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. For the Starclassic Series, Tama chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple-flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension-bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.

Claw hooks
Tama Starclassic Performer's claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.

Kick drum spur bracket
Tama's MSB30 die-cast bracket holds the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket. Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help to simplify set up.

Air-cushioned floor tom legs
Starclassic's Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber that eliminates the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which chokes sustain and sound), and absorbs shock for better playing.

Evans heads
Evans heads are featured on all Starclassic drums (except kick drum front heads). On the rack and floor toms, Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads and Genera G1 1-ply clear bottom heads provide both durability and solid sound. Starclassic bass drums are fitted with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.

XMT (Xpanded Modeling Technology) is proprietary Korg technology that was created in order to produce a broad range of sonic variations while keeping operation simple. In a conventional synthesizer, the sound-creating process requires you to adjust the oscillator settings one by one, making it difficult to see the overall picture. In contrast, KingKORG provides pre-set algorithms that contain combinations of various types and numbers of oscillators, letting you easily and quickly sculpt stage-ready sounds. The wide range of oscillator algorithms includes the choices you’d expect from an analog synthesizer–sawtooth wave, square wave, and noise–in addition to numerous PCM/DWGS algorithms, giving you plenty of scope choices for creating highly personal sounds. Modeling filters that reproduce the sound of classic instruments Extreme attention was paid to the filter section, which is crucial to a synthesizer's character. A diverse variety of filters is a unique advantage of analog modeling, and KingKORG’s filters add unparalleled flexibility. In addition to a variety of essential analog modeling filter types, you get faithful models of filters that reproduce the analog monophonic synths used for lead and bass in the '70s, the polyphonic synths used in new wave music of the '80s, and the filters of Korg's classic MS-20 analog synth. These filters can also be made to self-oscillate by raising the resonance setting– a unique capability of analog synthesizers. Three master effects, each with six effect types, add the finishing touch to your sound KingKORG provides three master effect sections, each giving you a choice of six effect types: PRE FX, with types such as distortion and amp simulator; MOD FX, with classic effects like phaser, chorus, and tremolo; and REV/DELAY, with ambience effects such as hall reverb and modulation delay.
